TIP recently welcomed a new team leader with 30+ years in the insurance and benefits business. Keith Johnson is our new EVP of Distribution. Read more about Keith’s background and why we selected him here.
Keith will share responsibility for strengthening our entire business so we can continue to serve our clients, their employees, and our community for many years to come. Keith will hire new team members, grow our business into new markets, and help clients and potential clients fix the gaps that are created by significant restrictions in most Group Long Term Disability plans.
Q. Welcome to TIP, Keith. With this new gig, what are you most excited about?
A. I'm excited to help grow TIP’s team and build on the incredible success they have had over the past 10 years.
My enthusiasm for this opportunity is sky high. This is an area in the benefits business that has enormous upside primarily because solving the unique needs of key employees is underserved right now.
Q. What opportunities do you see?
A. I see an opportunity to help Brokers and Benefits Managers be more aware of areas where key employees are under protected, especially when it comes to income replacement.
Brokers and Benefit Managers need to understand the limitations of Group Disability plans that in many cases, could leave key employees with less than 25% of their pre-disability income.
Q. What have been some of your biggest successes for clients?
A. Death or disability is the most devastating thing that can happen to a family. I see the impact firsthand. However, when I am able to help that family maintain their lifestyle with an adequate amount of life or disability insurance – that is why I do this.
Q. Why are you passionate about what you do?
A. Over the years, I’ve seen too many situations where inadequate protection puts families in a position where they can’t maintain their standard of living due to death or disability.
My dad was totally disabled when I was in high school. Years later, when I decided to get into the insurance business, he told me that without a supplemental disability policy he purchased before he was disabled, our family would have never been able to make it.
Q. What strengths are you bringing to TIP?
A. I have had the good fortune during my 30 years in this business of leading great teams, so I would say, being able to identify great talent and then work with them to be successful in the wholesale brokerage business.
Q. Why do you want clients to succeed?
A. TIP is already having huge success helping Brokers help their clients in this space. I simply hope to help grow the team so we can do what we do so well, with more Brokers, in more markets.
Q. What are you passionate about outside of work?
A. My faith and family. I love to be outside, at the lake, play sports, and take long walks with my wife Molly. Also, the Chiefs! I am a 20-year season ticket holder and have been a fan since I was a little kid.
Q. What’s different about TIP?
A. They have the expertise to handle the most complex cases and have put in place a white glove process to help Brokers solve their clients’ needs. They represent all the top carriers which positions TIP to offer truly unbiased recommendations.
